Tinos


Tinos is the fourth largest island in the Cyclades (area 194.59 km2) after Naxos, Andros and Paros. It has 8,636 inhabitants (census 201 [1] 1) divided in 62 settlements. It belongs to the northern Cyclades and is located southeast of Andros and northwest of Mykonos.

The distance from Andros, the so-called Andros-Tinos, is 1/2 mile, while the closest distance from the Mykonos coasts is about 5 miles and 9 miles from port to harbor. Southwest of the island and 12 miles away is Syros, and the capital of the prefecture of Cyclades, Ermoupolis.

Tsiknias, located to the east, is the highest mountain on the island at 726 m height. The central part is dominated by the steep cliff of Exomvourgo (or Xombourgos) at 641 m height with the ancient and Venetian city, whose upper part is immovable because it is steep from the three sides and the plateau of Patella or "the plain of war". The shape of the island is elongated triangular. The total length of the coastline, which is rich in horizontal and vertical partition, with many bays and capes, is totally estimated at 114 kilometers along with the Kalogeri islets at the northern tip, and the islands of Planet, Draconisi and Prassonissia on the northern coasts. its coastline at a short distance from the coast reaches about 37 nautical miles.

In Tinos there is also the church of Panagia Evangelistria, according to the Christian tradition. The church is celebrated on March 25 (Evangelismos tis Theotokou), but it is the most popular destination of the 15th of August (Assumption of the Virgin). On January 30 (Three Hierarchs) is celebrated the anniversary of finding the Holy Image of the Grand Duke. On this day, the "Fanarakia" custom is held every year. The afternoon of the same day follows the procession of the image in the country of Tinos. The church of Evangelistria (and part of the complex) was the first public building of free Greece. It was raised during the revolution (1823-1831).

Weather
The climate is generally temperate Mediterranean. The winter is mild and in the summer cool and with winds, mostly winds (winds that make it difficult to reach the main port of the island) during the meltemi. The thermometer in the winter rarely goes down to zero and in the summer rarely exceeds 37 ° Celsius. The maximum rainfall is in January and the minimum is in July.
